Installing and Setting Up WordPress

In this video I go through installing WordPress as well as the basic setting and functions in the backend dashboard. If you’re new to WordPress it can be a bit daunting at first, but with a little playing around and the guidance in the video there’s no major obstacles.

Note: Creating a category as the city I am targeting ends up biting me in the arse when I try to create the contact page using the city in the permalink. To avoid this happening to you, make sure NOT to create a category for your city.

Installing WordPress With SiteGround

Installing WordPress is pretty straight forward. Just make sure to install the website on “https://www” protocol to avoid any issues in the next step when we install SSL and set up Cloudflare for speed and security.

It’s also important to record your WordPress username and password so you can access your website’s back end. If you lose this you can update it in cPanel, but it’s much easier to note it down now.

Key Takeaways

  • Besides getting the Permalinks right, there isn’t to much to worry about for SEO in this part of the training.

If you get stuck or unsure about something, first check the comment section at the bottom of the page. If you can’t find anything that helps, ask your question and I will answer it as best I can.
